Prepping for Valentine's Day
We have a tradition in my household: hand-made Valentine's Day cards. And since Valentine's Day is tomorrow, I got my act together and made Nathan's card today (last-minute woo!). Behold the process:
And the results:

I started with the upper-right doodle, then realized that it "read" backwards, so I had to switch it up.

The pose in the upper left is fun, except that I'm right-handed, and thus any convincing baby-punching must feature said right fist. A right cross is a great punch, but we lose my face.
And the results:

Ended up going simpler on the front image than I'd initially thumb-nailed, and I have to be honest: it was the time-constraint. Stupid procrastination.

Take THAT, stupid baby.

Reps
Another Saturday, another Crossfit session. Today I officially graduated to being able to participate in the WOD, which consisted of five four-minute segments. Each segment consisted of running 400 meters, then doing "tootsie roll-outs" for whatever time was left in the four minutes. Once the trainer, Jack, called "time" we started all over again, no break in between segments. But perhaps you find yourself wondering, what is a "tootsie roll-out"? Observe:
In case you can't read my chicken-scratch, what it comes down to is that what Jack made look smooth and effortless, I made look like gastrointestinal convulsions. On the other hand, it was really effective at stretching out my abs, and I believe played a large part in me avoiding my typical post-cardio-uterine-cramps-of-death.
The absolute best part of the whole thing was that Nathan actually came with me, and thanks to the inhaler he recently accquired, was able to not just complete his workout, but actually felt good afterwards, something he's never really experienced. Woo, modern medicine! Not totally useless! So I'm hoping this is the beginning of a new, workout-partners stage of our marriage...

Camels: Way More Awesome Than You Ever Knew
My aunt and uncle currently reside in the UAE which is, among other things, a place with camels.
Now, I have always liked camels. They have awesome gorgeous eyes and super neat feet and the whole hump-for-survival thing? I can really get behind that. But I will admit that it had never occurred to me to give much thought to the topic of camel milk, and if it had, I certainly wouldn't have connected that thought to one involving chocolate.
Oh what a fool I've been.
Fortunately, my very thoughtful aunt remedied this mental lapse by sending me box of chocolate made from camel's milk. Yes, you read that right:
camel's milk chocolate.
At first I was skeptical. For some reason I was convinced it would taste like goat's milk, which while fine for cheese is not really what one wants paired with chocolate. But I am a dutiful niece, and so I tried it- and fell in gastronomic love. Holy camel, you guys! That stuff is amazing! So amazing I had to draw about it:
Plus apparently camel's milk is super good for you? Nathan knew all about it, and launched into a brief lecture about why we can't get it in the states, which was interesting but more to the point depressed me because I want more camel chocolate please and thank you.
Which, I suppose, means I need to start a serious suck up campaign to my aunt.
