True Blue Morpho

I actually snapped this shot last night during Boozeday:
a different kind of drying

He was gorgeous in life, and now in death he will become lovely, lovely jewelry.

I've never really considered it before, but "remnant" is somewhat of a theme for a lot of my favorite adornment: I love bone more than almost any other media.  To me there is something so comforting, so wonderful, about using what's left of what went before, rather than being grossed out by or scared of it.  I am definitely one of those people who thinks it's totally a good idea to tan the tattooed hide of a loved one after they've died.

And, of course, I believe in organ donation.

My Old Friend

I helped paint an accent wall this evening.
a process which goes shockingly fast when you have three ladies on the job
I must admit, it's possible my anal retention really comes through when it comes to stuff like painting walls.  I almost couldn't bear not to have all my "specialty tools" for the job.

(Nuhhhhrrrrrd)

Boozeday Tuesday and the Natural Science Field Trip

It's Tuesday, and you know what that means!

Boozeday!
Rosé from a plastic cup, ya'll.  Classy!

With my ladies!
My Katie was there, too, artfully dodging the camera.

And one gentleman!

Blue lookin' dapper in Green!
We took a field trip down to Portland to watch the swifts, which was pretty dang cool. I'd never even heard of it, but Melanie suggested it and we all thought it sounded like fun, and it totally was.  Aided, naturally, by junk food and booze... (my thermos definitely had hot cocoa made with heavy cream, sweetened with honey, and spiced with cardamon.  Plus, you know... vodka...)

Aaaaaanyway, the end result is that yet again I can't really choose between two of my photos as the official "photo of the day", so you get both:

Sing Softly of Us Sinners

It was a small, quiet sort of Boozeday Tuesday this evening.  I spent a great deal of it with a baby in my arms, and that's okay.

Milk Drunk

It's Boozeday Tuesday, or as we are now occasionally referring to it, Boobsday Tuesday.  Some people cannot hold their beverage of choice, it seems.
Go home, baby: you're drunk.

Making It

Dearest Readers, if there ever comes a day in your lives in which you are so lucky as to have someone love you enough to gift you with a tiny, taxidermied teacup duckling, then from that day forward, my friends, you may rest assured that you have, in fact, Made It.
Today was the day I Made It
I've definitely been stretching out the ol' birthday this year.  It's still a couple days off, but I've had day after day of joyful celebration this past week, and I plan to continue it right on into the next.  Today's Happy Events included my boss taking me out to lunch (gluten-free pizza for the freaking win), and of course the delightful, downright ducky surprise that Kara had waiting for me at Boozeday Tuesday.

Really I'm not sure how my actual birthday is even going to compare with this adorable manifestation.  But I aim to find out.

Rainbows Are Where You Find Them

...and sometimes where you find them is a friend's top shelf.

Gentle

Tonight I learned about "the cup song".

I learned about it when my Katie and Crystal and Kara all started shrieking excitedly about it, and more specifically when my Katie and Crystal breathlessly volunteered to demonstrate it.

Now, these two ladies are quite naturally exuberant people, so they were thumping and banging their glasses with such force that Kara kept repeating, in a slightly strangled tone, "Maybe more gentle?"

So they attempted to be "more gentle" about it and... well...

Whoops.

The glasses came together with a thoroughly satisfying crash, shattering in the way that only your inner five-year-old dares to hope for, and after a heartbeat of shock we all burst into hysterical laughter... before corralling the dogs and cleaning up the mess.

Embellish

A girlfriend of mine makes the loveliest jewelry.  She also takes the time to hand-embellish all the boxes in which she packages the jewelry.  This evening she had many boxes to make, so she recruited some of us to help her with the stamping portion, whilst she concentrated on the penmanship.

She has such lovely handwriting
