Diapers on a Rod
I have nothing pithy to say about this image:
In fact I have nothing pithy to say, in general, tonight. I'm working on a couple of longer blog posts, but I'm just too exhausted (physically and emotionally) to finish them up right now. Instead I'm going to go curl up with Nathan and watch some iZombie, because why the hell not.

A Storm of Wind and Light
I woke up this morning not to the alarm, but to howling winds and dancing tree limbs. I checked my weather app, and sure enough- we're under High Winds Advisory until seven tonight- gusts up to 40mph! Needless to say, I opted not to ride my bike to work today.
Once I got in to the office, the effect of the early-morning shadows on the walls was too fascinating not to try and capture on film:

Preface to a New Year
I have a few blog entries I'm working on right now (Adventures in Non-Parenting Part 3 and a write-up of yesterday's hellish travel mishaps) but they aren't going to get done tonight, so I thought I'd throw up a quick "Coming Soon!" entry to preface the new year.
COMING SOON!
A new 365 project.
Yep, 2014 is an even-numbered year, which are apparently the years in which I do 365 projects. Or something. And this time around I'm going take a page from my husband's book, and do a photo every. single. day. And then at the end of the year what a nice little flip-book I shall have! Plus just imagine the hilarious chaos of photos that have nothing whatsoever to do with whatever I feel like writing about that day! Chaos! Hilarity! All good things!
Because I am not quite so dedicated to perfection/craft/general manliness as he is, I am going to be taking those photos with my ever-present iPhone. As such, these photos could be awesome, or they could be kind of lame. But I'll do my best to keep it at least 85% suckage free around here, I promise.
(I may even re-vamp my header.)

That Other Thing I Did on Saturday
That other thing I did on Saturday was go looking for appropriate funeral attire, since I'm now too small for anything in my wardrobe that might have worked. It's hard to feel too put-upon about that, although after four hours and twenty friggin' dresses I somehow managed to feel pretty put-upon.
I prevailed, however, and here is a doodle of the dress (and shoes) I ended up with:
If you are a lady (or a fashion-conscious gentleman), chances are you totally get why it took me so long. If you are a regular dude you are probably thinking, "Just buy something black and be done with it- sheesh!" and I don't really blame you. But let me explain just why, exactly, it took so long. There were several factors in my Funeral Attire Quest:
1. Comfortable. The funeral is in Alabama in late May. That means it will be hot. As such I knew I wanted a dress, not a pant suit.
2. Appropriate. I tried on quite a few dresses that were physically comfortable, but way too short for me to feel socially comfortable in at a funeral (this is a common problem when shopping in the Jr and petite sections.) Furthermore there is a certain level of formality to the event- so I had to turn away several dresses that were just too damn casual, in spite of their appropriate hemline.
3. Flattering. Call me vain, but I want to make a good showing to relatives I haven't seen in however many years. But because it is spring/summer and "flowy" is currently "in", it makes it even more difficult for me to find a dress because my bosom does not do well in "flowy" bodices. My ladies, they need some structure, because without it I tend to look fat- and I am not fat, so I bloody well have no intention of appearing to be so.
4. Fit. My new Crossfit/climber body means that my already broad back and shoulders are now even broader- and my biceps are larger than they've been since I rowed crew in college. What this means is that I am now limited to sleeveless options- and while I actually prefer sleeveless, anyway, it just meant that many more dresses I couldn't "just buy".
I did finally find a dress that works- although I literally have to have help zipping myself into it. Still. At least it's done (and I'll try to get a picture up later so you can see how it matches up to the doodle).
(And then, of course, I had to get shoes to match... ::sigh::)

False Starts (and Using the Word Exciting Too Much)
Today didn't go as planned- and neither has this entry. I'm thinking it's going to end up being a sort of stream-of-consciousness sort of thing, because honestly my head is hurting like a mofo (although not as badly as it was before Nathan made me take a nap while he cooked dinner) and I'm feeling a little nauseated. Plus I need to help Nathan rework his resume, stat. I found him an excellent job posting that unfortunately closes tomorrow. But I can't help but be pleased that I found it at all. At last I've been of some use to him in the job search!
I'm excited about what I wrote yesterday- it was from a writing prompt by Brandon Sanderson, whom I pretty much adore. I'm pretty certain I can turn it into an excellent story. I'm picturing a setting similar to Medici-ruled Venice. Not with canals and such, mind you, (because let's face it- that's been done to death) but that sort of political atmosphere. Which is to say, extra-deadly.
A friend of mine just posted a new story idea that I'm also pretty excited about, plus my best friend just emailed me an excerpt from something she's been working on which is terrific. It's all really exciting... Man, it's so fantastic to have such talented friends. It's a good and nurturing creative environment, and I think that's just so incredibly important to any artist's soul. I am definitely looking forward to being able to hang out with them again.
Have I talked about that on here yet? You know, I don't know that I have, and I don't really feel like going back to check... suffice to say, we're moving back to the PNW in March. It's going to be so epic. I have visions of Creative Community the likes of which the world is only just prepared to deal with. Maybe we'll form a gang. With do-rags. And we'll walk down the rain-swept streets of Portland together and menace other gangs with our finger-snapping. Brilliant...
Time to go work my resume magic, oh yes. Have a flower in the midst of cold-times:
